These are two main areas of Curacao Island. Although never visiting the Island, I was inspired by its beauty and architecture. Instead of two paintings, I decided to experiment with something different and combining two paintings as one as they meet where water becomes sky and sky becomes the water..

Known as Florida's Legendary Pink Palace since 1928.

The luxury resort was the location for the wedding of a very close friends daughter. This piece was the image for the wedding invitations, program and table settings.

In this print of the original, as I did for the piece used for the wedding, I photoshopped the sky out and replaced it with a clearer daytime sky and offer this only through the giclee.

The Key West Lighthouse was built in 1847 to aid to ships navigating dangerous reefs off the lower Keys. The Key West Lighthouse now stands sentinel over one of Florida's finest historical sites.

The tower was originally 46 feet high and powered by 15 oil lamps with 15-inch reflectors, but was extended to 86 feet in 1894. Inside visitors now climb 88 iron steps to the observation deck that affords spectacular views.

We visited the lighthouse in July, 2004. I took the photo and painted the 22" x 30" watercolor in my studio. Prints were available and have sold out at the Key West Lighthouse Museum. We look forward to returning to Key West in 2008.

Portland Head has long protected Portland and the adjacent area. Cape Elizabeth residents were deeply committed to American independence from British rule. In 1776, the new Town of Cape Elizabeth posted a guard of eight soldiers at Portland Head to warn citizens of coming British attacks.

In 1787, the General Court of Massachusetts (the Massachusetts legislature) provided $750 to begin construction of a lighthouse. In 1790, when the United States Government took over the responsibility of all lighthouses, Congress appropriated $1,500 for its completion. The original tower measured 72' from base to lantern deck and was lit with 16 whale oil lamps. It was first lit on January 10, 1791. read more...

We are planning to visit this site in 2013. We are very excited about plans to visit this lighthouse and experiencing its history up close.

This lighthouse was the second lighthouse we ever visited and have been back several times. The bulidings and property are beautiful. The tower overlooks the Atlantic Ocean looking over the small dunes of Daytona Beach and gives a breath taking view.

We are over on the Atlantic side of Florida often, and whenever we can, we stop in, climb the tower, visit the bulidings and drive along Daytona Beach.

We hope this one takes you there too!

As St. Augustine was the leading port in the newly acquired Territory of Florida, the U.S. Government worked quickly to establish a light to mark the inlet. John Rodman, the customs collector at St. Augustine, proposed that the old Spanish tower be converted into a lighthouse. However, after a thorough inspection, the tower was deemed unsound, and a new tower was built nearby. The old tower might have served as a lighthouse temporarily, but in 1824, a new brick tower, rising to a height of seventy-three feet, was placed in service. John Andreu, a Minorcan, was paid $350 a year to care for the lighthouse and tend the oil lamps, set in silver, bowl-shaped reflectors. read more...

This was the first lighthouse we visited. I started the painting on site sitting at the U.S. Coast Guard house as the day was ending. I took photo's at the time I started the painting and finished this in my studio.

For another view in watercolor of this lighthouse,
see "First Light".
